Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 arriving without multitouch but will get Android 2.0/2.1
It’s been confirmed that the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 will be arriving with Android 1.6 and sans multitouch; but it will get an upgrade to the newest Android OS in the future…
Confirmation of the X10’s Android 1.6 launch status came during a Q&A session with a representative of the Dutch Tweakers.net community, it was then posted over at the Official Sony Ericsson Blog.
With such huge excitement surrounding the launch of Sony Ericsson’s first Android device it’s unsurprising that there have been so many unanswered questions flooding in from the baying public, and a lot was revealed during the 80+ question session.
Two of the more interesting tidbits of info to come out of the report are that the X10 will (sadly) be arriving with the older 1.6 version of the OS, but that it “will be upgradeable” to later versions, most probably 2.0 or 2.1.
More worryingly though, when Sony Ericsson’s Jacob Sten, was asked directly whether the X10 would support multitouch, he reportedly said, “No, the Xperia X10 will not have multitouch.”
We’re not despairing just yet, because it doesn’t necessarily mean that multitouch functionality won’t ever arrive with future OS updates. But even so, it’s pretty disappointing to miss out such a highly desirable feature on Sony Ericsson’s debut Android handset, even if it is only missing at launch.
In related news, Vodafone is the only UK stockist to confirm that it will be carrying the X10, due to launch here in April.
