Fourth-gen iPhone coming May 2010
Online reports suggest that the next gen-iPhone might be launching as early as May 2010
According to online whisperings the fourth-gen iPhone will be launching a full 2 months before its expected appearance in July.
The launch of a new iPhone is always likely to be preceded by a colossal amount of speculation about specs, pricing and release dates, so it’s with a healthy amount of reserve that we’re reporting that the 4th generation iPhone could be on the shelves before summer this year.
That said, the French site Challenges.fr is citing “several mobile operators” as the source of the information, so perhaps there’s something in the suggestion that Apple is getting nervous about the momentum being gained by Google’s rising Android star.
If the details are accurate, it will be the first time that Cupertino has launched a phone outside of the June/July WWDC window and quite an accolade for Google, who only introduced its Android OS last year.
Until now there hasn’t really been a credible challenger to the iPhone’s combination of simplicity and outright appeal, but considering the calibre of many of the upcoming Android handsets and the support from the major mobile manufacturers, even Apple must be wondering what to do about the company from Mountain View.

Gaming overtime – where did all the hours go?
I am a huge iPhone fan, and competition is good for all consumers. It makes sense that this will press Apple to push both the features and time frame. I hope that competition will also help with the price of the phone and data plans. I will be fine if the iPhone is offered on other networks. I like AT&T, but will certainly consider switching to Nextel if they begin to offer the iPhone as well.
