Kushners to nix Marlins bid if Loria ambassador

Jeffrey Loria Is Your New Ambassador To France... Seriously

Reports: Marlins owner may sell team to Jared Kushner's brother and become ambassador to France

"Our family has been friends with Jeff Loria for over 30 years, been in business together and even owned an AAA baseball team together", Mr. Meyer said.

Joshua Kushner and brother-in-law Joseph Meyer were reportedly set to be the primary investors in the deal, per Andrew Ross Sorkin and Michael De La Merced of the New York Times, although the purchase now appears to be on hold.

The Miami Herald had reported Wednesday that the Marlins were "focusing all of their potential sale efforts on discussions with NY businessmen Joshua Kushner and Joseph Meyer". Jared Kushner now serves as Trump's senior advisor.

Jared Kushner is also the husband of Ivanka Trump, the President's daughter.

According to the New York Post, President Donald Trump's Chief of Staff Reince Preibus has recommended Loria for the position.

Loria, along with his wife, Julie, donated $250,000 to the Trump PAC during the campaign. We first learned that there was at least a "handshake deal" to sell the Marlins at some point this year - presumably after Loria got to bask in the joy of having the All-Star Game in Marlins Park.

Loria, a Jewish art dealer from NY, owned the Montreal Expos (now the Washington Nationals) in the early 2000s.

The Post also reported that the appointments had caused a rift between Priebus and the State Department because there was concern that "Priebus has not properly vetted the diplomats-to-be", though Secretary of State Rex Tillerson and Priebus denied any discord.

The 76-year-old Loria is a widely despised figure in South Florida for keeping the Marlins' annual payroll among the lowest in Major League Baseball, often by purging the team of talented players on the verge of paydays, while getting hundreds of millions in public funding for a new stadium.

Kushner's son-in-law released a statement to the New York Times on Wednesday explaining why.

Miami Marlins owner Jeffrey Loria reportedly could sell the team, and if he does, it looks like he won't be bored without his baseball club.
