GOP senator admits Republicans aren’t working on Obamacare replacement plan yet

President Donald Trump sparked questions about GOP commitment to the health care law's repeal after an interview with Fox News' Bill O'Reilly, where he appeared to back off a vow to get rid of the law in 2017.

For years, Republicans have promised to repeal the Affordable Care Act, the law better known as Obamacare. By repealing the Affordable Care Act, the president, as well as members of Congress, would be impeding on the already slow progress we've made as a nation when it comes to providing health care for all-a task every developed nation should be working towards.

"No one is talking about repealing anything until there is a concrete practical alternative to offer Americans in its place", said Alexander.

"Yes, in the process and maybe it'll take till sometime into next year but we're certainly going to be in the process", he revealed. But 39 percent of people either mistakenly believed that those benefits would be continued under that repeal/no-replace scenario, or that they did not know what would happen to the benefits.

Knowledge about the particulars of a potential repeal of the law was also lacking: 39% of people surveyed said they did not know or incorrectly stated that Medicaid subsidies would not go away if Obamacare is repealed.

The twist: Despite the demographics of the district, which includes all of Pasco and parts of Pinellas and Hillsborough counties, almost all the guests came to support for the Affordable Care Act, the Obama-era health law now on the chopping block. Rand Paul last month, who warned about the consequences that repealing the law - and not immediately replacing it - would have on Americans, insurance companies, in addition to the political ramifications it could have on Republicans. In the moments right after my face slammed into the pavement and right before my shoulder could pop out of its socket, all I could think was "Oh God, just what I needed, another bill!" The Republicans already have missed a January 28 deadline for acting on a budget resolution created to repeal key components of Obamacare - an essential first step in ultimately replacing the program.

Republicans have the votes in the Senate to approve Price, and Republicans leaders say a vote could come as early as this week but is likely to slip into the following week. Obamacare is a disaster. "Until they have a good replacement, and all they can really do is repeal or partially repeal, it makes us very anxious on the coverage front and on the financial front", he said.

All in all, it seems that far too many Americans are convinced an Obamacare repeal will involve getting rid of all the bad stuff and keeping all the good.

Editor, the Tribune: The Affordable Care Act is a complicated and imperfect attempt to solve major problems that existed in our health care system before its inception, including lack of access to adequate health care for millions and upward-spiraling costs.
