'Star Wars: Episode VIII' Titled 'The Last Jedi'
Disney revealed on Monday morning that the next installment of the main Star Wars saga will be titled Star Wars: The Last Jedi.
The next highly-anticipated Star Wars movie and sequel to The Force Awakens has been granted an official title: The Last Jedi.
"Force Awakens" ended with scavenger Rey (Daisy Ridley) discovering her hidden powers, finding Skywalker and ready to start her Jedi training.
While in production on the film past year, Johnson used the hilarious working title "Space Bear" for the film. The only two times the franchise has used a red font was when Return of the Jedi was originally called Revenge of the Jedi and Revenge of the Sith. You know the scene, (spoiler alert) when Luke Skywalker receives his good ol' light saber from Rey. Maybe there's also some.revenge involved?
What's more, the Star Wars Twitter account promised, The Last Jedi is being billed as "the next chapter of the Skywalker saga".
Mark Hamill will reprise his role as Luke in Episode VIII after a dialogue-free appearance at the very end of Episode VII. The film will also explore what's been going on with Luke Skywalker since his disappearance, Johnson said in an interview earlier this month.
"Star Wars: The Last Jedi", is scheduled for release by Lucasfilm and Disney on December 15, 2017.
The standalone movie "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story", released in December 2016, has made $1 billion at the worldwide box office. We're not saying that the title may not contain some hidden meaning, but generally Star Wars titles have been pretty direct. Now, it's more likely "Forces of Destiny" is anotherStar Wars property being developed (perhaps a new video game?).
