New York Jets Introduce General Manager Mike Maccagnan and Head Coach Todd Bowles

Woody Johnson, the billionaire owner of the New York Jets, is Donald Trump's pick to be the next ambassador to the United Kingdom, according to multiple reports.

Trump himself appeared to allude to a diplomatic post for Johnson on Thursday, referring to him as "ambassador" during remarks at a celebratory luncheon in downtown Washington. Unlike some owners, he doesn't work out of the team facility on a daily basis, so team officials don't expect a hard transition.

Trump also congratulated Johnson for signing Tim Tebow almost five years ago.

The Jets' owner since 2000, Johnson won't be required to sell the team even though he will live in England.

Johnson originally backed Trump rival Jeb Bush in the Republican primary.

The move likely means that Johnson will relinquish day-to-day control of the Jets and that his younger brother, Chris Johnson, will take the reigns of the organization. He served as vice chairman of the Trump Victory Committee, hosting high-dollar fundraisers for the president-elect's general election campaign.

In May, Johnson endorsed Trump for president. The team has had a winning season just once in the past six years, and their 2016 record ended with five wins and 11 losses.
